Steading

Terms of Use

Effective 20 August 2026.

Steading is offered to the members of one family, by invitation, at no charge. These terms describe what you can expect from it and what it expects from you.

Who provides Steading

Steading is operated by Zachariah Parry, an individual, in Nevada, United States. It is not a commercial product. There is no subscription, no advertising, and nothing is sold.

Who may use it

Membership is by invitation from the family administrator. You may use Steading only with an account created for you, and only for as long as you remain a member of the family.

A member under eighteen must be linked to a parent or guardian, who controls what that account can do. A parent creating an account for a child is confirming they have the authority to do so. What a guardian can see and change, and what the child is told about it, is described in the privacy policy.

Your account

Sign-in is by a one-time code or link sent to your phone or email, so there is no password. Keep control of the phone number and email address on your account, because whoever can receive those messages can sign in as you. Tell the administrator promptly if you lose that control.

What you post

You keep ownership of the messages, photographs, and videos you contribute. By posting them you allow Steading to store, display, and back them up so the family can see them and so the archive continues to work — nothing more. Your content is not used to train models, sold, or shown to anyone outside the family.

Do not post material that:

This is a family, not a platform. Ordinary decency is the standard, and the administrator may remove anyone who cannot meet it.

The archive is permanent

Steading is built to keep things, and you should understand this before you post. Deleting a message hides it and retains the text. Editing one keeps every earlier version, visible to anyone who can see the message. Uploaded photographs and videos are never destroyed.

The retention section of the privacy policy sets out exactly what happens, and how to ask for something to be genuinely erased.

Content you contributed remains part of the family’s archive if you leave or are removed.

Artificial intelligence

Steading sends message text and photo contents to Anthropic’s API to generate photo descriptions and answer questions about the family’s own history. The AI only reaches content you are already allowed to see. This is described in full in the privacy policy.

Text messages

Sign-in codes and invitations are sent by text message. See the messaging terms, including how to stop them.

Availability

Steading is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. It is run by one person as a personal project. It may be unavailable, may lose data despite backups, and may change or stop entirely. Do not rely on it as the only copy of a photograph you cannot bear to lose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Zachariah Parry is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Steading, including lost content. Because Steading is provided free of charge, total liability for any claim is limited to nothing beyond correcting the problem where that is possible.

Ending your use

You may leave at any time by asking the administrator. The administrator may remove any member from the family, which ends that person’s access immediately.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that materially affects members, they will be told in the app before the change takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
